Protect Your PCs from Conficker

"Conficker is set to go live on April 1 or April Fool's day". This line can be read in most blogs and news over the internet today. According to Slate "Conficker, the astounding computer worm that threatens to wreak global havoc once its latest version begins to phone home for further instructions on April 1."

This type of worm is really scary. It might have infected your computer without even noticing it. And without your very knowledge, it will spread to another PC. Last October, Microsoft fixed the security hole where Conficker entered. But the effect was never removed.

People using pirated versions of Windows are prone to this type of worm. However, everyone is not safe. It may seem that your computer is safe but it is better to check if it really is safe.

Apart from all other computer worms which disables Antivirus software, Conficker only blocks your PCs from going to the antivirus sites as well as that of Microsoft. How devastating it is. Once it infects your PC, you can no longer access the antivirus sites where you can download the Conficker removal tool.

Try to check if you can access websites like Microsoft and antivirus vendors' website like Symantec, McAfee
So see what Web sites you can visit. If you can access websites other than aforementioned, there is a possibility that your PC is infected with Conficker. If this is happening, relax and think. Conficker Working Group (group composed of companies aimed to battle Conficker), will help you with it. There is a list of Conficker removal programs in their site which you can use so that you can scan and purge the worm.

A list of the free Conficker removal programs is available on the Web site of the Conficker Working Group, an alliance of companies fighting the worm. The removal programs will take care of themselves, for the most part, scanning your system and purging the worm.
