Protect Your PCs from Conficker

"Conficker is set to go live on April 1 or April Fool's day". This line can be read in most blogs and news over the internet today. According to Slate "Conficker, the astounding computer worm that threatens to wreak global havoc once its latest version begins to phone home for further instructions on April 1."

This type of worm is really scary. It might have infected your computer without even noticing it. And without your very knowledge, it will spread to another PC. Last October, Microsoft fixed the security hole where Conficker entered. But the effect was never removed.

People using pirated versions of Windows are prone to this type of worm. However, everyone is not safe. It may seem that your computer is safe but it is better to check if it really is safe.

Apart from all other computer worms which disables Antivirus software, Conficker only blocks your PCs from going to the antivirus sites as well as that of Microsoft. How devastating it is. Once it infects your PC, you can no longer access the antivirus sites where you can download the Conficker removal tool.

Try to check if you can access websites like Microsoft and antivirus vendors' website like Symantec, McAfee
So see what Web sites you can visit. If you can access websites other than aforementioned, there is a possibility that your PC is infected with Conficker. If this is happening, relax and think. Conficker Working Group (group composed of companies aimed to battle Conficker), will help you with it. There is a list of Conficker removal programs in their site which you can use so that you can scan and purge the worm.

A list of the free Conficker removal programs is available on the Web site of the Conficker Working Group, an alliance of companies fighting the worm. The removal programs will take care of themselves, for the most part, scanning your system and purging the worm.

For even more detailed discussions on this, try to check out this beneficial reports:

The Worm that Ate the Web

Don't fret about Conficker

If you can no longer access Symantic, use a PC which is not infected, probably ask a friend and download the removal tool from the site.

Big Brother 10
July 29th Recap

Angie finds herself not unexpectedly on the block in this episode of Big Brother 10, and Jessie feels that he has a lot to do this week. Memphis feels that Keesha just put a target on her back with her nominations, making two enemies where there were none before. Keesha feels that it is Jessie's fault that Steven is gone and sticks by her nominations.

Keesha speaks with Libra, Ollie, April, and Renny in the Big Brother 10 Head of Household room and says that Michelle was really worried that she would go up.

In a patio conversation, Jerry says that Memphis is a bartender, has a bit of a full head, and he is living a free life, and is a womanizer. Jerry thinks he has a chance to go far in the game with no one trying to take it away from him.

Jessie goes to Keesha, and when she asks him if he is mad at her, he says that he isn't holding any grudges, but he says that when he was Head of Household, if it had been up to him, he would not have put up Steven. April and Ollie try to interrupt their conversation with a knock on the Head of Household door, and Keesha advises Jessie to tell them to come back later. Jessie makes the point that Libra will promise her the world, but her actions are telling. She won't give Keesha space and she just used her. Jessie says that he proved to her in actions, and she proved to him in actions, and now look what Libra has done. Keesha says that she gave her her word and Jessie says that Libra is targeting her, and that her word means nothing. Immediately following Jessie's exit, Libra comes into the room. April joins them and Keesha says that he was good for the most part. Jessie goes downstairs and informs Michelle that he has convinced Keesha to put Libra up. As he leaves her, he gives her the thumbs up.

Keesha calles the group for the Big Brother 10 Veto Competition and Jessie says that it won't matter who is up. There is no one that he feels can give him any competition. Keesha draws Libra and Angie draws Ollie. Jessie calls Memphis. The host for the competition is Dan. They have to get dressed for it and look like flowers.

Keesha wants to win so she can make the decision she wants. Angie wants to win to stay in the game. Jessie has utmost faith in himself and says that he has won it three times before.

Dan announces the game. The Big Brother houseguests are to play "Garden of Veto." They have to lay in a garden bed and have water pouring on their head for one hour. The object of the game is to estimate when one hour is up and then rise from the garden bed which will release buttons under their head to mark the time. The Big Brother 10 houseguest closest to one hour without going over will win the Big Brother veto. At a point in the game the houseguests had a choice of pouring either worms or compost on them and Jerry says, "Worms," and they pour worms on them. After a few minutes there Keesha can't take the worms and gives up. Jessie asks Libra who wanted Steven up and she says that she was the one who felt targeted and Jessie reminds her that is why he is there now. The compost is then poured over the houseguets adn time ticks on. Libra decides to get up and Ollie agrees to stay for another five minutes. Jessie leaves next so that Libra won't beat him. On the bench Libra tells Jessie that she was upfront with Keesha and Jessie says to Keesha that he was trying to point out why he is there. Angie feels that she has a chance when Jessie leaves and Memphis and Ollie are out followed by Ange. The winner will be the person who left the game closest to the hour. Keesha had left the garden bed at the 21 minute point. The rest of them all went over the hour by at least fifteen minutes. Keesha is excited to have won the Power of Veto and Jessie says that he is going to continue to campaign.

While Jessie is showering, Jessie suggests that Angie go up and talk to Keesha. Libra is listening while sitting in the bathroom. Angie says that she feels that she has a connection to her through Steven, and if she is going to use the Big Brother 10 Power of Veto to use it on Jessie, and since she is unable to take another week with Libra, she would rather the house decide between the two of them.

Keesha approaches April and April says that she cannot trust Libra and with such a target on her back she could hurt their alliance. Keesha talks to Ollie as well and Ollie says that she is ruining the alliance and you can count on her whispering something to somebody. They decide that it has to happen sometime. Keesha is worried that she might have to cut Libra loose, but she gave Libra her word on Day 4 of the game. She says that it sucks that her mouth has gotten way way out of control.

Jessie approaches Keesha once again. He wants her to use the Big Brother 10 Power of Veto on him and replace him with Libra who has nothing to degrade and belittle her behind her back. Jessie says that if she thinks she is safe, she is not. She says that she gave her word and her word will be nothing if she doesn't follow through with it. Jessie says that she can make a wrong right, and he is being prosecuted for something he didn't do, for a crime he didn't commit, and she has the power and control it right now. She tells him that she is listening, but she made a promise.

America gets to play Big Brother by choosing America's Player. America votes for the one houseguest that they would like to see become America's Player for one week. That person will be offered the job and if they complete the tasks they will win $20,000. If that houseguest turns down the job, they will forfeit the money and we will have no America's Player.

Jessie pouts in the Big Brother 10 Diary Room that Keesha is sticking to her word. He uses a baby voice in his complaints. Keesha says that Jessie is coming up again and he confronts Keesha, Renny, and April about following her word. He raises his voice and she, Renny, and April leave the room. Keesha goes around the house and tells them as she finds them that she has given her word to Libra and will stand by it. She says she may be a complete idiot for that, but she is going to stand by it. Jessie starts talking again and she says that she isn't going to argue with him and walks away.
Outside, Memphis, Angie, Jessie, and Michelle saw a banner.
Angie explains that they immediately have to go into the Big Brother 10 house for a lockdown when a banner plane appears, as they are not allowed outside influences. The houseguests who saw it can't make out what it said, but decide to carry the information upstairs as "Keesha, Libra is a liar, love Steven." As they leave after delivering the message to a doubtful group, Memphis says that it was not what it said, but he jumped up to read it and it said, Libra, and somebody, liar and love Steven. He says that it is the truth, Libra is a liar. Memphis says that he would love to ask a question about his name coming up on the second week. Memphis says that he doesn't go around the Big Brother house saying that he wants everyone out. As a matter of fact, he has only told them that he wanted one person out and that was Jerry. Jerry says that he knows that. Memphis explodes and says that Jerry called him a womanizer and he is a married man who grabbed some **** and he calls him a womanizer? He says that if he ever attacks him personally in the game again he won't take it easily. He calls him old man and is very angry when he leaves.

Keesha says that her mind is made up and nobody is changing it. Angie says that she wishes that she would take Jessie off and put Libra up because she has a better chance of staying than Libra. Jessie says that if Keesha was in a right mind she would take him off and put Libra up and right a wrong.

Keesha calls for the Big Brother 10 Power of Veto ceremony.
Angie and Jessie have been nominated and she has the power to take one of them off the block. Angie gets to speak. She says that it is a tough week, a struggle with her decision making, but her actions are true to her character outside of the house and this is the only way she can play the game. Jessie says that he came in to prove and to justify his word, and if he threw everyone under the bus, they threw him under the bus by nominating him. Keesha thanks them, but chooses not to use the Big Brother 10 Power of Veto on them. It was hard to put two people up and she doesn't think that she can put a third person up at this time. Libra is ecstatic that Keesha kept her word. Angie hopes that Jessie blows up and by doing so keeps her in the house. Jessie says that he was hosed and hosed again and if "they don't vote me out of this house, it is the biggest mistake ever."

Big Brother 10 is moving to its new time and the next episode is the live eviction, on Thursday, July 31, at 8 et/pt, 7 central.

What is Real Love?

Anyway, I have presented here some of the questions that teenagers often ask. The answers are based on the book "Questions Young People Ask, Answers That Work" published by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc.

During adolescence stage, a teenager starts to notice the opposite sex and new feelings and emotions are felt. But the confusing emotions that most teenagers battle is to distinguish love from infatuation or other feelings.

What is Real Love?

Real love is sometimes confused with infatuation. Others thought that they are truly in love with a certain person that is why they rush to certain decisions like getting married or living with this person. Some regret their hasty decision. But what is real love?

* Love Versus Infatuation
Infatuation is counterfeit love. It is unrealistic and self-centered. Infatuated persons tend to have a tendency to say ' I really feel important when I'm with him. I can't sleep. I can't believe how fantistic this is.' Notice how many times either "I" or "me" is used? A relationship based on selfishness is bound to fail? Note, however, the Bible's description of true love,"Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury."(1 Corinthians 13:4,5)

Here are some of the tips to distinguish love from infatuation:

* Love:
1. An unselfish caring about the the interest of the other.
2. romance often starts slowly perhaps taking months or years.
3. You are attracted by the other person's total personality and spiritual qualities
4.The effet on you is that it makes you a better person.
5. You view the other realistically, seeing his or her faults, yet loving that one anyway.
6. You have disagreements, but you find that you can talk them out and settle them.
7. You want to give and share with the other person.

* Infatuation:
1. Is selfish, restrictive. One thinks, 'What does this do for me?'
2. Romance starts fast, perhaps taking hours or days.
3. You are deeply impressed or interested in the other's physical appearance.('He has such dreamy eyes.' 'She's got a great figure')
4.A destructive disorganizing effect.
5. Is unrealistic. The other person seems perfect. You ignore any nagging doubts about serious personality flaws.
6. Arguments are frequent. Nothing really gets settled. Many are settled with a KISS.
7. The emphasis is on taking or getting especially in satisfying sexual urges.

Remember the following:
* A person who constantly puts you down before others may well lack genuine love

* A physically attractive, but senseless, man or woman is 'like a gold ring in the snout of a pig.'

*Your heart may speak, but trust your Bible-trained mind. Get to know more than the person's external "image". Give the relationship time to blossom. Remember, infatuation reaches a fever pitch in a short time but then fades. Genuine love grows stronger with time and becomes "a perfect bond of union."-Colossians 3:14.

Tips on Becoming a CPA (Certified Public Accountant)

I have listed some of my simple ways of passing the CPA board exam. These were the things I did that somehow made me pass the board exam. I have subdivided it into two, the first one is about a person's manner and the next group is about study tools and techniques.

Here are my tips:

1. Have a good time management.
I made myself a study schedule and I followed it strictly. I always see to it to have enough time to study and time to rest and relax. Similarly, make a schedule of your activities and keep it balanced. Remember, 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.'

2. Stay focused
It is true that there should be time to relax and unwind even during the review period, but most of your time must be to study. Remember, focus your mind to your goal--to be a CPA.

3. Study well and have best quality of study period.

It doesn't matter if you read ALL the Accounting books and didn't retain it in your head. What is more important is the best study quality. Know the test pointers and focus mainly on these. Also, study the basic and most importantly the standards.

4. Be humble and ask help.

If there are certain things that you don't understand or are not clear to you, be humble and ask help. Don't pretend that you understand ALL. but instead, ask help from reliable persons, like your professors, if you are confused even in the littlest accounting matter.

5. Be observant and resourceful.

Always know the latest review books. You don't have to buy all of it but you can always find ways to secure a copy of these (you may perhaps borrow from someone or from the library). Research and seek for previous actual exam questions. In certain cases, there are old exam questions which are repeated. The probability is 50:50. But there is nothing to lose.

6. Know your BEST time to study.

There are people who are nocturnal, others are diurnal. As for your case, know yourself. There are people who can memorize well or retain study materials on daytime and others prefer nighttime. KNOW YOURSELF. As for me, I prefer to study at night until dawn. Honestly, I am nocturnal.

Study Tips

7. Read, understand and take notes.

Read the accounting books not just those review books which are often summarized. If possible, read it more than once. Apply the concepts in problem-solving questions to test yourself if you've understand something. Take notes of what you've read so that you can read it some other time for simple recall.

8. Test yourself.

Study those review books and previous actual exam questions. But first of all, remember to read the standards and go back to the basic. Then, apply the concepts in certain theory or analytical questions. Answer the questions and explain to yourself why you come up with those answers. If confused, relax...just study that certain topic or seek others' help. Don't pressure yourself since it will hinder you from retaining the topic.

9. Good study tools usage.

As I've said, when reading certain topics, take down notes. Write it at the space of the books near that important key points. If possible, summarize those topics your OWN WAY. Read it wherever you go (if possible). Possible write it in a small index card. For those topics which requires memorization (formula, laws, standards) write it on 'post-it' memo pads (sticky notes) and put it in your room. Stick it on the wall where you can always see it. In my own personal experience, the capital budgetting formula were written on those sticky note pads and I posted it on the wall near my bed so that I can easily see it when i wake up.

10. Be inspire.
As for me, I always trust in god and I bear in mind that my family will be happy if I succeed.

Actually, i also did some techniques that others call 'DUMMIES TECHNIQUES'

Dummies' Technique that works( this is not accurate)

1. Color Coding Technique
I associate my study progress with colors. Before I study, I look at closely anything that is colored YELLOW.
Reason is, YELLOW, means caution. According to my review instructor, looking at this color can prepare the brain for retention. Just imagine the color yellow in traffic light. It prepares the drivers either to stop or go.

If I am tired of studying, I look at the color GREEN to relax my eyes

If taking down notes, I use different colors. Most importantly I use RED pen for items that confuses me.

2. Icons Technique
In writing notes, I draw icons that can give me a clue about that certain topic or accounting standard.

3. Desperados' Technique in answering questions.

According to my review instructor, in desperate situations we have no chose but to use this technique.

Elimination Technique-Since the exam is a multiple choice question, we can use this technique. If there are 4 choices, we have 25% in of getting the right answer. Still, understand and examine the question. Then, eliminate the very obvious wrong choices. Then choose the nearest choice based on what you know so far.

2.Over-the-top Technique-Here you just have to read and understand the questions. Sometimes the answers are just found in the questions itself and there is no need in solving it. (Examples are certain Management Services questions

Anyway, what matters most is to study well and have much preparation. Taking the CPA board exam is like going out of war. Obviously, we DON'T want to go to a battle with no weapon nor training. Similarly, in taking the exam, you have to be very well prepared and well equipped. Don't forget to be physically and mentally prepared. Be inspired, study well but stay healthy.

How I became a CPA (Certified Public Accountant)

It was May 2000 and everyone from my batch were busy enrolling to the course they desire for college. Some enrolled in Engineering, others in Medical Course and some in Commerce or Business-related field. As for me, I have not made up my mind which path to follow. My parents kept bugging me to enroll to any course. They gave me money to pay for the enrollment. So, finally, I decided to go to a school near our place and took an entrance exam. Luckily, I passed. Still, I don't have any idea what course to take. It is because deep in my heart I want to be an archaeologist or a writer. But the course are offered some other place so I have no choice but to choose any course from a nearby school's course list.

So, I went to the school nearby. My cousin who was also about to enter college enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. I thought 'Why not take this course? Almost everyone in our clan finished this degree.' I took an enrollment form for Industrial Engineering and completed the enrollment process. Still, something inside me is telling me not to proceed with this course. I remembered on of the guidance counselors told me "Don't ever bother enrolling in Engineering or Medical Course because your intelligence in those fields has a rating of just 1 out of 10" Her voice is echoing in my mind. I slept that night and woke up the next morning with a firm decision-not to proceed in an Engineering Course. I further decided to take an Accountancy course instead. I hurriedly went to the Registrar's office and got a course withdrawal form. Then, I finally decided to go to the Commerce Department and talked to the College of Commerce Dean. He assessed my grades and accepted me to enroll in Accountancy department.

That's it! It started my accounting learning process. During my four years as an Accountancy student, I studied well but never deprived myself from having recreation. I always keep things in balance. Through my effort and with God's help, I have finished the course with flying colors.

Having graduated the course as an honor student is not just a prestige but a challenge as well. Then, I took the review class. But I was slipping away from my goal and so the first time I took the board exam was a tragedy--I failed.

Then, I got a job in the city and worked there for six months as a Bookkeeper/Disbursement officer/collection officer. I saved money from that tedious multi-task job and so I decided to leave the job and made use of my money the better way. I took a review class and decided to stay very focused. Well, I don't have the heart to be a CPA but I thought to myself that an accountancy graduate will have much worth by passing the CPA licensure exam.

I enrolled in one famous review class in our city. The review instructors are equally good. They taught the subject in a detailed manner--such a good refresher course. After six months, I attend another review class in another university. Well the review class was truly awesome because the instructors were doing it in a fast-pace manner. After another six months, I finished the review and was about to take the exam. I paid for the exam fee and then after a month that was May 7,8,14,15 year 2006, were the scheduled exam dates. I was very relaxed in taking the exam and made sure about my answers. It was May 16 and I thought there was a release on CPA Board exam passers but there was nothing about it. Waiting for the exam result was scarier than taking the exam itself. I felt as if floating mid-air wherever I go. On May 17, I shiver more. I went out because I just can't calm down. When I went home, my sister told me that my friends called up and announced that I passed the board exam. Then my close friend Jane called up and congratulated me. I just can't believe that finally I succeeded. Then, everything is history.
